It has been a frustrating first seven games for the Milwaukee Bucks, made more difficult by just how close the Bucks have came to winning several of their losses.

The Bucks are 2-5 on the season. Three of those losses have been by six points or less, including a pair of close defeats to unbeaten New Orleans.

The Hornets beat Milwaukee 95-91 in New Orleans on opening night. Saturday night, the Hornets again edged the Bucks, 87-81 in Milwaukee. Also among the close losses: a 105-102 overtime defeat at Boston.

At 2-5 on the season, the Bucks are 1 ½ games out of first place in the Central Division, one-half game ahead of Detroit.

Milwaukee is coming off a 46-victory season. The Bucks play host to the Knicks on Tuesday, then travel to unbeaten Atlanta on Wednesday.

From most rookies, that comment would be received as either absurd or big-headed. For Brandon Jennings, the point guard sensation for the Bucks, he may just have a point.

ESPN profiled Jennings as All-Star Weekend kicks off, revisiting the rook who opted to go overseas and play for the pros instead of going to college, saying that Jennings “isn’t your typical rookie.”

During his year in Italy, there were rumblings that Jennings wasn’t adapting well as he fell out of favor with his coach and the rest of his team.

“Everything I’ve been through over there — not playing, having the reality that you’re not bigger than anybody — I was humbled and that made me want to work even harder,” Jennings says.

Now? He parlayed a year of Italian pro ball into the 10th overall pick in the NBA Draft, and a 55-point game in November.

As he participates in the rookies vs. sophomores game and the skills challenge this weekend, be sure to keep an eye out for Jennings - he’s the reason that the Bucks have hope once again.

He sustained the injury on a dunk attempt in Saturday’s game against Detroit.

This clearly isn’t how Milwaukee wanted to start its season. Redd is one of the few dependable veteran players on a team that should struggle to compete as it rebuilds. Still, in a top-heavy Eastern Conference, competing for one of the last playoff spots isn’t out of the realm of possibility for almost any team, so a fast start would go a long way towards keeping a dwindling fan base interested.

In Redd’s place, Charlie Bell slides into the starting spot alongside rookie point guard Brandon Jennings. Bell has experience running the point and Jennings is more of a shoot-first guard, so the two might actually work well together to help keep the Bucks afloat.
